Holly Jolly Christmas film:
Christmas film called Holly, Jolly Christmas.
To begin with, we were given a file between us that contained information about the makeup they had
in mind for each of the characters, including a short, detailed list and a moodboard. There was also
information about the time they wanted the makeup done by and the time they will begin filming.
Later on, the director sent us headshots of each of the actors, their names and which characters they
will be playing.
In order to plan the makeup looks, Paige, Stephen and I each discussed who will be designing which
characters' makeup:
Stephen designed the makeup for the staff members and Holly
Paige designed the makeup for the male customers and Noelle
I designed the makeup for the female customers and Grace
We then created a small moodboard for each of the characters' makeup following the brief and used
those as references when we got to work designing the face charts for each of the characters. We
discussed each of the designs together to see if any improvements were needed as well as discussing
which actor(s) we will be working on.
Since the three of the actors needed prosthetic elf ears, Paige and I practiced them beforehand to get
a better understanding of how to create them on the day.
The first day of filming occurred on 03/12/2020. All three of us arrived before 9:00am to set up our work
areas before the actors arrived. Once the actors had arrived, we began the makeup as soon as we had
finished prepping the skin. Once the makeup was done, Paige and I started working on the ears for the
three actors.
Paige, Stephen and I stayed in the room they were filming in with spare powder and scar wax just in
case any touch ups or fixing of the ears were needed.
The second and final day of filming occurred on 07/12/2020. On this day, we only needed to do one set
of elf ears and three of the makeups. We followed the same proceedings as the previous day of filming.
To demonstrate good health and safety practice, we cleaned our bases both before and after working
on the actors, kept the bases organised by making sure the brushes were easily accessible, all the
makeup was set out and any bags / coats were placed out of the way at all times. We also maintained
personal hygiene both before and after working on the actors by keeping our hands clean and sanitized,
we all wore clean clothes, as well as Paige and I keeping our hair tied back at all times.
