I made notes on what to do on Wednesday
On Monday, we had our first FMP meeting.
We started our discussion by sharing our initial ideas with each other, as well as any questions/feedback we have.
Kassie will be doing a full body design of a dragon, starting from the neck/chest, heading down the arms/side, finishing the design on the lower leg. She stated how she was taking inspiration from a tattoo she recreated on her own face back in 2020. At the moment, she isn’t too sure what she’ll be doing for the ‘accessories’ part of the design, such as hair, nails and jewellery.
Emily will be doing a kind of ‘watercolour’ type makeup. She will be taking inspiration from an artist with similar designs to her ideas, and will be calling her project ‘makeup is art’.
Leah has the idea of creating some sort of galaxy style makeup, based around the stars/the universe, however, she isn’t sure how she’s going to approach this idea. It was suggested that she takes inspiration from images taken of the galaxy as well as similar makeup looks.
Francesca has taken inspiration from a makeup artist from the show Glow Up to create clown-styled makeup, and inspiration from the show Euphoria to include emotion into each of her designs.
Isobel wants to base her designs around adornments. It was suggested that she uses Pat McGrath as inspiration. It was also suggested, for the magazine, that she creates 3 different looks. One being the first adornment she adds, then a few more, then the final look. As well as the face, she should include arms and hands to ‘complete’ the look.
I then stated how I have the idea of creating three different looks surrounding different movies/tv shows/video game characters/characters I’ve seen on Instagram, as a few of the characters had pretty intricate makeup looks that I would like to have a go at recreating in some way. I mentioned how I was planning on combining a couple of the looks to create one ‘original’ one as a way for me to test my skills learnt over the past couple years. Either that or recreate a look / make my own interpretation of them. However, I’m still not 100% on what idea I’m going to go through with, over the course of the next week or so, I plan to do more in-depth research into each category/character to see which one would be the most challenging/inspiring for me.
Once we had each discussed our initial ideas, we went on to talking about how we are going to plan out the next 10 weeks of our project as a way to keep us on track as much as possible as well as manage our time over the weeks. We decided to start the weeks off with this first meeting, that way from 5 weeks from now we will be halfway through the project, giving us enough time to plan out our designs and how we will create them, then the rest of the 5 weeks can be spent preparing all of the practical aspects of the designs such as accessories we will be needing (costume making), and other makeup we will need to add to our kit and how we will be designing the hair. We also decided that the week after Easter - 25th April - will be when we present our final designs as this will take us to the 5 week mark, giving us the remaining time to focus on practical.
We then moved onto sharing ideas for fundraising in case we need more money for materials that need to be added to our budget. One of the main ideas was a car boot sale or some sort of raffle in college.
Once the meeting was over, I planned out roughly what I was going to be doing on Wednesday to be able to efficiently manage my time better.
I decided I will try to get through: 1 moodboard of the different shows/characters I plan on including, come up with ideas of what it’s for (context for the magazine article), as well as maybe do design ideas/costume ideas.
16/03/2022
researched video games (add examples)
Decided on 2 & made moodboards (add pics)
Planned out what I’m gonna do/what for ???
Over the course of the past day, I had been thinking about what I want to do for this project, and, through my research, I came up with the idea to pick 3 characters from 3 different games within different genres to differentiate my final ideas/makeups, and recreate each of the looks as I thought it would be interesting to pick 3 different characters from my favourite games within different genres as this would be a great way for me to test my skills and push myself for this final project. This could be put into the magazine under the idea of ‘cosplaying favourite video game characters’ or something else along those lines, I plan to create a mindmap design of different ideas I come up with so that over the next few weeks, I will have at least a couple ideas to choose from/improve if necessary.
I then went to choose which characters I will be including. After some research on the options available to me, I chose 2 characters, still unsure about the 3rd character:
the Great Fountain Fairies from Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild,
and Cassandra Dimitrescu from Resident Evil 8.
For the Great Fairies, I had the idea to combine 4 of the characters into one. Since they all share the same design, but each have different colour themes, I have decided I will be combining at least one colour from each fairy, for example: the hair could be pastel purple, jewellery could be mint green, the eye makeup could be red, and the lips could be light blue. However, I still haven’t decided which colour I’m going to use for what area of the design yet.
For Cassandra Dimitrescu, I will be including some sort of wound designs onto the character for added effect, as well as her typical ‘character look’.
